The Practice of Inquiry: A 10 session class
What is inquiry? What is the nature of this mysterious practice that, when engaged in, in a deeply personal and embodied way, can bring us into direct contact with our True Self. This class provides an opportunity to explore in-depth one's understanding and experience of the process of self-inquiry as it is practiced in the Diamond Approach.
Through presentations and exercises we will explore our relationship with curiosity, knowing and not knowing, allowing, superego, the experience of embodiment and other elements that affect our inquiry.
This class is open to all; students and friends, relatives and others interested in the Diamond Approach. See flyer.
New class begins Monday January 9, 2012.
Mondays, 7-9:30pm at the Ridhwan School in N. Berkeley.
Taught by Barbara Knyper, an ordained teacher of the Diamond Approach.

Our programs in 2012 will revolve around a specific theme: the nature of the body in spiritual life and practice.
Diamond Approach Teaching Events in 2012:
1. Falling Awake: Experiencing True Nature Through Movement and Sound: With Byron Brown, April 12-15, 2012
By dropping into our bodies we fall awake out of the conditioning of the past through which we have fallen asleep. This workshop will be an exploration through movement and voice of the ways our body can be a vehicle for directly experiencing Being, our essential ground. Our embodiment in physical life, rather than separating us from our depth, can be a doorway to contacting the fundamental elements of spiritual truth. By bringing to consciousness the intelligence that inherently guides our body, we can learn to contact the underlying qualities of presence, openness, awareness, dynamism, and oneness. We will walk, run, stand, sit, bend, crawl, and lie down with an easy sense of play and discovery. This will give us a break from our familiar activities of thinking, reacting, judging, planning, comparing, worrying, and figuring out. We will find the dance of our breath, our balance, and our heartbeat. We will contact our aliveness in toning, chanting, singing, and voice play. Then we will take time to reflect on our experience and explore the barriers to being more fully present in our physical and energetic life.
2. Body of Being: An Exploration. With A. H. Almaas (Hameed Ali)
May 2-4, 2012
Our body is the way we live in this world, but many of us are alienated from our bodies or view them as an impediment to spiritual realization. In this workshop, we will explore the body from the perspective of the Diamond Approach, asking questions such as: How can we utilize our embodiment effectively for our inner work? What happens to our body in the process of awakening and realization? What is the body in the realized condition? How does it feel and what can it do? How is the body related to Being, our true spiritual nature? What is the real body, what is the body of Being?
3. Mystery of the Body: A Diamond Approach Perspective. With Leah Chyten
November 3-4, 2012
Spiritual traditions have for centuries grappled with the nature of the body and our relationship to the body. And each of us relates to the body in different, but often overlapping ways. We can view the body as a concept, an object, a source of pleasure or pain, an obstacle to realization, life’s expression of itself, or a complete mystery. The Diamond Approach takes no single perspective on the nature of the body, but, rather, invites us to inquire into our own personal experience and understanding. Through the practices of inquiry and meditation, this workshop is an opportunity to experientially engage your own relationship to your body through the teachings of the Diamond Approach.
Other Events with Diamond Approach Teachers:
Tango as a Door to Presence: With DA Teacher Jeanne Hay & long-time student of the DA Gawain Bantle.
September 20-23, 2012
This retreat will give you the opportunity to explore the essence of Tango as it manifests in relationship with another and yourself. Tango forces everyone who dances it to be in the present since it is an improvised dance that can be very complex. Because of the need to pay absolute attention to your partner and yourself, it facilitates the development of Presence and Awareness as well as exposing barriers to these qualities. When you are fully present with your partner, it is possible to experience qualities of Being such as Intimacy, Openness, Flow, Love, Strength and Joy, to name just a few. In this workshop Jeanne Hay and Gawain Bantle will use inquiry, meditation, and of course, lots of Tango to help create a field of Awareness and Presence. No prior dance experience is needed and you need not come with a partner.
